Our client is a major design, engineering and project management consultancy who has been rapidly growing within various sectors and who is looking for multiple experienced professionals to join them on permanent basis. They currently have an opportunity for a Assistant Geophysicist/Geophysicist located in London or Bristol.

They need to increase their team to meet the growing demands from their clients in the infrastructure sector (particularly rail, highways & water).

The successful applicant will be a Geophysicist with a degree in Geophysics or Geology coupled with demonstrable experience in the application of near-surface geophysics to engineering and geotechnical projects. For the Geophysicist role, a post graduate qualification in a Geophysical or Geotechnical subject is required. It is expected that applicants will be working towards or be close to Chartership submittal as a Geologist, with a specialism in Near-Surface Geophysics.
Requirements
- A strong academic background with a relevant degree (for the Geophysicist role, MSc or equivalent experience according to the Geological Society’s Master’s Equivalence Guidance is required).
- Working towards, or be close to Chartership as a Geologist, with a specialist in Near-Surface Geophysics.
- Demonstrable field experience in a range of geophysical field techniques.
- Experience with geophysical processing software (e.g., such as, but not limited to, Res2DInv, Seisimager, SurfSeis, Geolitix etc. and / or open-source applications).
- Experience with geophysical and generic GIS visualisation software (e.g., Oasis montaj, Leapfrog, Civils 3D, Paraview, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills and confidence to translate the needs of clients, specify techniques for their contractors, and communicate findings with non-geophysicists.
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to self-check and produce accurate work.
- A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas.
- A valid UK driving licence.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience of field survey design and management of long-term or complex surveys.
- Project management skills including management of site health and safety, knowledge of CDM regulations, etc.
- Experience with Python (or similar programming) for geoscientific purposes.
- Experience with novel and emerging geophysical techniques (e.g., drone-based techniques, fibre optic based techniques, nodal seismic deployments, machine-learning, etc.).
