Job description

Our client is is a company that specializes in providing sustainable water and wastewater treatment solutions. They design, build, and operate advanced technologies and systems aimed at enhancing water quality, managing waste, and ensuring environmental compliance. Our clients focus is on offering eco-friendly and efficient services that address the growing challenges of water scarcity, pollution, and infrastructure demands  

 

Due to expansion, the company is looking for a Process Engineer with a minimum of 6 years experience in Clean Water Treatment process design. The role will be part of a team providing the detailed process design and technical support for the company’s Clean Water treatment and re-use projects.  

 

The role is based in Birmingham , UK, flexible working arrangements can be accommodated. The role covers a wide range of process and general engineering activities including:-  

 

- Clean Water Process design  

- Preliminary process design and preparation of documentation for tender submissions  

- Calculation/estimation of operating costs  

- Production of Process Flow Diagrams and Flow/Mass Balance  

- Development of P&IDs  

- Process and hydraulic calculations  

- Production of equipment, motor and instrument schedules and associated datasheets  

- Specification of chemical dosing systems  

- Involvement in HazOp studies, design risk and DSEAR assessments  

- Technical review of supplier’s quotations  

- Development of Functional Design Specification and other software documentation  

- Software testing  

- Preparation of O&M manuals  

- Involvement in on-site commissioning and process start-up  

- Training of Client’s operators  

- Ongoing process support/management  

- Involvement in on-site pilot trials  

- Mentor / Coaching of junior process engineers

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications is a plus.  

 

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in process engineering, ideally in clean water treatment or a related field.  

 

Technical Skills:  

Proficient in water treatment technologies, such as filtration, reverse osmosis, UV disinfection, chlorination, and ion exchange.  

Knowledge of process design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.  

Experience with process optimization and control systems (e.g., SCADA, PLC).  

Familiarity with water quality testing methods and standards (e.g., turbidity, pH, conductivity).

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.  

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.  

Strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental responsibility.  

Initiative to drive innovation and improve water treatment processes.  

 

Desirable:  

Professional certifications related to water treatment (e.g., Water Treatment Operator Certification).  

Experience with advanced water treatment processes (e.g., membrane filtration, advanced oxidation).  

Familiarity with environmental and sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, ISO 14001).
