Job description
Our client is a world-leading design, engineering, and project management organization. They are currently looking for a Principal Process Safety Engineer (Full Time / Part Time) to join their Bristol, Epsom, or Warrington offices.
Engineers at their organization are at the heart of delivering transformative projects in the UK nuclear industry, reducing carbon emissions whilst achieving future energy security. Your work will span across areas including new nuclear power station design, developing fusion technologies, or implementing new nuclear waste management processes.
Your Purpose:
- You will be working within the Nuclear and Power area of the business in the Systems Design team where your goal is to support the delivery of numerous projects on behalf of their clients, either in-house or via secondment. The principal safety engineering role will be dynamic, detail orientated and cover every stage of a project life cycle from feasibility to commissioning. You will primarily work within the Nuclear New Build and Science and Industry markets, but may also be involved with Decommissioning and Disposal, Net Zero, and Defence and Generation projects.
- Their Nuclear and Power clients work within highly regulated environments, and you will be in the heart of multi-disciplinary teams helping to deliver complex, unique, and interesting projects.
- The main aspects of this role will include taking the lead on challenging process safety-related project issues, supervising and guiding the delivery of high-quality technical safety activities, and providing assistance on proposals and bids for future projects.
Requirements
Our client is looking for a person to lead on ensuring that their multidisciplinary designs are safe; and that safety requirements are properly identified and managed, and risks are minimised.
They are looking for someone with prior experience in performing and supervising process safety activities, including but not limited to:
- Multidiscipline hazard workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, bowtie analysis, ALARP demonstration, inherent safety assessment, and the successful close-out of resulting actions.
- Consequence analysis to establish the severity of hazards including fire, toxics, and explosion in risk assessments.
- DSEAR risk assessment.
They need someone who thrives on providing safety leadership, improving their processes and their procedural adherence, with a strong understanding of Relevant Good Practice, including UK Legislation and Codes of Practice.
To that end they require someone with proven knowledge of legislative requirements associated with major hazards, examples of which may include COMAH, DSEAR, PE(S)R, ATEX, plus applicable codes and standards, and common industry guidance.
The Systems Design team has a collaborative spirit. There will be opportunities to identify new project prospects and promote the team’s process safety and design capability. There will also be opportunity to upskill others and drive a positive culture in a vibrant and capable team.
They welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and skills and take a strengths-based approach, looking to fit roles to the applicant’s strengths to allow them to support the success of the business and the development of their own careers.
