Job description
Our client is a water and civil engineering contractor with many years’ experience delivering world class projects across the UK and they are currently looking to recruit a HSEQ Manager. The role will be working within the corridor between Warrington/Manchester/Stoke On Trent.
As an HSEQ Manager you will support a number of projects to meet the requirements of the Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Management systems. You will report into the Head of HSEQ for your area. You will support the site teams and managers through your inspections by recognising hazards, seeking to minimise risks whilst creating, maintaining and improving the health, safety, environmental and quality standards. You will champion HSEQ initiatives in the region whilst ensuring that legislation is adhered to.
Key Responsibilities:
Promote Occupational Health & Wellbeing:
• Support the provision of Health & Wellbeing within the business, under the direction of the Head of HSEQ & HSEQ Director with the support from the Company H&W Advisor.
• Support the communication and promotion of the monthly themes.
• Promote the value of occupational health at a regional level.
HSEQ Advice and support to HSEQ Advisors:
• Provide consistent and accurate HSEQ advice to Advisors and Site Teams where applicable.
• Provide support to the region on HSEQ initiatives.
• Provide support on HSEQ issues/problems.
• Produce regional HSEQ statistics on a monthly basis, identify trends and take proactive initiatives.
• Line manage HSEQ Advisors under your control and mentor to allow professional development.
• Provide support and focus to the site teams on their Be Right First Time initiatives and monitoring their Quality Control as defined by the HSEQ Systems & Audit Manager.
Collaboration and Client Support:
• Provide Client support for the region under your control.
• Attend Client HSEQ Forums as required and provide lessons learnt feedback and sharing of best practices.
• Form collaborative relationships with Client HSEQ Management.
HSEQ Communications & HSE Statistics:
• Contribute and support company level HSEQ communications and embed at regional level.
• Produce and communicate HSEQ alerts following incidents and poor-quality standards to promote learning and prevention and continual improvement.
• Support the Head of HSEQ for your area of the business in maintaining HSE performance statistics monthly as requested.
• Deliver awareness training and lead site stand-downs.
Accident/incident investigations:
• Support HSEQ Advisors and complete investigation reviews for HSE investigations.
• Keep local and corporate management informed on status.
• Identify root causes.
• Support the production of HSE alerts as above.
• Act as an independent Investigator in other areas of the business under the direction of the HSEQ Director.
HSEQ Monitoring:
• Conduct regular visits to support your Advisory Team within the area of your control.
• Conduct HSEQ Detailed Inspections monthly in your control with monthly targets agreed with your Head of HSEQ and or the HSEQ Director.
• Act as role model for HSEQ in the area under your control.
• Monitor HSEQ Advisor inspections and ensure findings are closed out in a timely manner.
• Agree Advisor monthly inspection targets and monitor compliance.
Facilities Management at Company Premises:
• Provide management support for Facilities Managers at regional company premises on HSE related issues and provisions.
• Monitor HSE standards at regional company premises and ensure legal obligations are being upheld.
Key Measures & Targets:
• Complete monthly HSEQ inspections as agreed with your Line Manager.
• Attend weekly escalation Team Calls.
• Attend Bi-monthly HSEQ Team Meetings.
• Support the update of the HSEQ Management system where directed.
• Support external accrediting audit body audits to allow Barhale to maintain its accreditations.
• Produce monthly HSEQ performance reports for Regional Leads.
• Attend monthly regional management team meetings and provide visibility of regional HSEQ performance.
Requirements
Essential
• NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent as a minimum but ideally IOSH.
• CEnv or equivalent as a minimum but ideally associate IEMA.
• Extensive HSEQ experience within a civil engineering environment, experience in the rail sector would be beneficial but not essential.
• Client facing
• Sound knowledge of quality controls associated with company work activities.
• Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations.
• High standard of written English.
• Good communication skills, including professional telephone manner.
• People skills – ability to liaise with staff/operatives of all levels within the business.
• Excellent use MS Office – Word, Excel and Power-point.
• Effective communicator with strong presentation and report writing skills.
• CSCS Safety Professional card.
• Able to work as a member of a team, but capable of working alone to tight deadlines as appropriate.
• Pride - sets own high-quality standards, e.g. attention to detail.
• Passion for Health, Safety, Environment & Quality.
• Lead by/set a good example.
Desirable
• Level 3 AET or PTTLS preferable but not essential.
• Working towards NEBOSH Diploma level 6.
