Job description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work for one the UK's largest multi-disciplinary engineering businesses where they Design and Build unique engineering projects within Rail, Building Services, Infrastructure and Energy sectors.
Our client has an opening for a ambitious site based Rail Quantity Surveyor to join an innovative team and be working on a Major Rail Depot project.
What you will be doing:
- Prepare, monitor, and manage budgets and cost plans for rail projects.
- Conduct detailed measurements and valuations of work done on-site.
- Prepare and analyse project costings for tenders, including materials, quantities, labour, and time.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress and ensure costs are kept within budget.
- Provide regular financial reports and updates to project managers and stakeholders.
- Assess and value variations and changes to the contract.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
- Assist in the preparation of final accounts and project close-out reports.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably in the rail industry.
- Strong understanding of construction and rail industry standards, contracts, and regulations.
- Proficient in using quantity surveying software and tools (e.g., CostX, RICS New Rules of Measurement, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, ICES) is highly desirable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on major rail infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with NEC and JCT contracts.
- Certification in Project Management or Construction Management.
