Job description

This contract with our government client is for a Web/ Digital content Designer for 4 months based in Manchester, Bristol, London/ 3 days pw onsite.  

 

About the Role:  

You will be an experienced content designer to edit and publish GOV.UK content that connects the client with a range of audiences. Schools, colleges, childminders, nurseries and children’s homes all rely on the information we publish, to help them care for and educate children and learners. You will need:  

▪ Experience in using content management systems  

▪ A proven ability to write, edit and check digital content that is user-friendly and accessible.  

▪ Experience in using metrics and user feedback to define and improve content.  

▪ Excellent attention to detail.  

▪ Experience advising staff on website best practice.  

▪ An ability to manage time and workload against challenging deadlines.  

 

You will also need to be able to build good working relationships across the organisation. This role sits within a wider communications division, dedicated to producing clear, accessible and engaging information.  

 

The post-holder will report to the Senior Web Content Designer.  

 

Key responsibilities  

▪ Publish material to GOV.UK and ensure that all content is published to a high standard.  

▪ Triage and manage enquiries and requests (from the staff and external users)about GOV.UK content.  

▪ Help to develop content plans for GOV.UK content and attend planning meetings.  

▪ Develop and apply content and format strategies with support from the Senior Web Content Designer to make sure user journeys are as effective as possible.  

▪ Manage relationships with subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate.  

▪ Ensure all content on GOV.UK meets accessibility guidelines and is a resource for the whole department on what accessibility is and why it’s important.  

▪ Help policy colleagues and others write and plan content to be accessible.  

▪ Monitor the performance of content and tools and think about strategies for improving content that isn't hitting the mark.  

▪ Deal with rapidly changing deadlines, workloads and goals.  

Requirements

Key Essential Skills:  

- Experience using CMS’s (Content management systems).  

- Experience as a website editor - a proven ability to write, edit and check digital content that is user-friendly and accessible.  

- Attention to detail.  

- Ability to knowledge share best practice.  

- Ability to work at pace.  

- Project management skills.  

- Verbal and written communication skills.  

- Experience in using metrics and user feedback to define and improve content.  

 

Desirable:  

- Experience of Whitehall publisher.
