Job description

Our client is one of the UK’s leading independent environmental consultancies, specialising in environmental assessments, planning, policy advice and sustainability. They are currently seeking a Director (Energy DCOs) located Cardiff, Birmingham, London or Manchester with hybrid working option available.  

 

​The role is a Director (Energy DCOs) within the Infrastructure Projects and Programmes Division. You will be responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of projects, opportunities, pursuits and people. The right candidate could also take on Business Unit Lead responsibilities.  

 

This is a role where you will contribute to business strategies and plans, notably infrastructure strategy, including leadership of one or more infrastructure sector strategies, aligned with the company's strategic ambitions. You will need to have previous senior management experience of directing projects, driving projects through delivery and ensuring exceptional quality of execution. You will have experience within the energy sector, including DCOs, EIAs and/or other planning and consent processes. Ideally with experience in water, coastal and/or other infrastructure projects.  

 

In this role you will be responsible for:  

- Identify, lead and oversee the development of customer relationships with consistency and to curate long-term relationships.  

- Develop new business through existing and new relationships, seeking new opportunities and realising financial growth year on year.  

- Oversee consulting functions and drive execution of key projects to company's standard.  

- Manage and lead individual contributors, their growth and development.  

- Manage and grow a substantive revenue stream and client base.  

- Through market analysis, formulate long term Business Unit infrastructure strategy, identifying priority sector areas for optimal reputational and financial impact.  

- Prepare and implement comprehensive business plan to facilitate the delivery of strategy.  

- Accountable for financial metrics and overall business results for the Business Unit (as part of Division), and reporting on this on a monthly basis.  

- Possess a superlative knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies and a passion for project delivery, ensuring client satisfaction is achieved on time and within budget.  

- Influence strategy and policy internally and ensure cross functional collaboration on prospective projects and frameworks.  

- People management, including fostering career progression, performance management, team resilience and resourcing to meet project commitments.  

- Operate as a technical specialist and ensure there is a sufficient framework in your Business Unit to assure and control the high technical quality of all work undertaken and/or items produced.  

- Provide technical mentoring and support to their team and encourage membership in relevant professional institute.  

- Ensuring that, in the execution of the business plan, all legislative and internal management systems protocols are met, including Health and Safety, company's Policies, Sustainability Goals and BCorp objectives.  

- Consultancy requires knowledge of project management techniques and methodologies. They expect all candidates to have a passion for project delivery, ensuring client satisfaction is achieved on time and within budget.

Requirements

Ideally you will have the following:  

- Proven experience in a team leadership role.  

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.  

- 15+ years plus relevant industry experience.  

- Chartered professional (or working towards this).  

- A good general knowledge of the environmental and sustainability market and an in-depth knowledge of key sectors.  

- Proven experience in developing business relationships and leveraging market opportunities.
