Job description
Our client seeks to appoint a Senior/Principal Urban Catchment Modeller to join their team in one of the following locations: (Epsom, Bristol, Cardiff, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Derby).
Our client is one of the leading names in the field of Surface Water Management (SWM) and shaping the dialogue within the UK and internationally in how SuDS should become integrated part of green blue infrastructure and master planning. By joining their SWM national team you will be joining a multi-disciplinary team with a national remit to work with a variety of clients including water companies, local authorities and developers on major projects and be part of a team that develops cutting edge digital services to its clients.
Their team carries out a range of projects related to storm water management/ SuDS, wastewater and integrated networks, undertaking feasibility studies and scoping projects, catchment drainage studies using computer modelling, analysis to support operational and environmental recommendations or other interventions.
You will work closely with a technical expert(s) in this field and have a potential to develop into the regional point of contact for Surface Water Management and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), providing technical expertise, mentoring their graduate engineers and liaising with key clients across the field.
Responsibilities:
- Technical and project management of surface water management projects.
- Undertake Project Manager role on projects where required.
- Support in the development of Client Relationship with their key Water Company and non-Water Company clients to support growth.
- Support in the preparation of bid documents and estimates.
- Supervision of project teams and supporting the Business Manager in resource planning.
- Promote staff development through training, on-the-job experience, and personal development.
- Contributing towards technical innovation and improvement workgroups.
Requirements
The successful candidate should be degree qualified and have a broad range of experience in:
- Integrated Catchment Modelling – constructing models for assessing the interaction between sewers (storm and foul), watercourses and overland flows.
- Blue Green Infrastructure.
- Solution Development –with a blue green infrastructure emphasis.
- Catchment Planning – determination of hydraulic, environmental, and operational needs to catchments and the development of horizon strategies to improve catchment performance.
- The successful candidate shall demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of surface water management, excellent technical skills and have a proven track record in one or more of business development, client management, project management and line management.
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge of the water environment and sustainability and desire to apply your skills to the challenges the water environment faces.
- A natural curiosity for developing innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions for their clients.
- Experience working on surface water management projects.
- Understanding of UK Water Industry and regulatory issues.
- Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects on time and budget.
- Experience in integrated drainage modelling.
- Competence in the use of Hydraulic modelling software (ideally ICM).
- First class written and oral communication skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of team working on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Sound commercial understanding.
- Able to develop and motivate junior team members.
- Attained a chartered status (ICE or CIWEM).
