Job description

Our process engineering client currently has an opportunity for a SHEQ Advisor to join them in Birmingham.  

 

Job Description:  

 

You will be responsible for all aspects of SHEQ management matters within the Company and for promoting and maintaining the highest standards of SHEQ with all stakeholders.  

 

Main duties and responsibilities include:  

• To promote their proactive, No-Accident-Behaviour SHEQ culture throughout the Company.  

• Provide SHEQ advice and support to employees, contractors, clients, partners and suppliers at both office and project locations.  

• To liaise with appropriate external bodies, including the HSE, EA and all certification bodies acting on the Company’s behalf regarding SHEQ matters when necessary.  

• Assist in the development, maintenance and implementation of the Business Management System and its literature.  

• Undertake site/project visitation.  

• Ensure that all incidents are reported accurately and thoroughly investigated. This includes ensuring corrective and preventative actions are implemented.  

• Promote the use of the SHEQ Reporter App.  

• Work in conjunction with the Procurement team to conduct contractor/supplier SHEQ reviews when necessary.  

• Review and when necessary, develop risk assessments and method statements.  

• Carry out SHEQ Audits in line with internal governance.  

• Implement and maintain the company’s integrated management system in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 & 27001.  

• Assist with environmental aspect/impact assessment and advise on improvements required to existing work practices to meet legal obligations and conform to best practice.  

• Develop SHEQ related training materials, including toolbox talks, for delivery to colleagues and contractors as required.  

• Chair and lead when necessary SHEQ related meetings, ensuring that records/minutes are accurately prepared and shared.  

• Supporting the SHEQ & Assurance Manager in achieving targets and objectives for the Company, department and project sites.  

• To comply with all SHEQ responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in the SHEQ Policies.  

• Any other duties commensurate with the position as may be assigned.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Skills:  

• NEBOSH/IEMA qualification in safety and environmental management  

• Investigation and root cause training  

• Full UK driving licence  

 

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:  

• A formal qualification in a relevant engineering, safety or environmental discipline preferably to degree level or equivalent  

• Lead Auditor qualification  

• Membership of IOSH, the IQA, IEMA or other relevant institute/body  

 

Essential Knowledge and Experience:  

• Demonstrable relevant experience, commensurate to the level of the position, in the same or similar role within the water/wastewater industry or other relevant design and build sector.  

• Good working knowledge of CDM 2015  

• Good working knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001  

• Computer literate with ability to use a wide range of IT packages including Microsoft Office  

 

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:  

• Membership of appropriate outside committees  

 

Personal Qualities:  

• Very good communication skills, both written and verbal – including report writing and presentation skills  

• Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to deal with people at all levels (influence, negotiate and persuade)  

• Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise to meet deadlines  

• Willingness and ability to work away from home for short periods as and when required  

• Willingness and ability to travel internationally when required
