Job description

Our client is an engineering design consultancy and they are looking to recruit for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist to join their industry leading Geology and Geotechnical team in their Shropshire office.  

 

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your sound technical skills whilst working in an engaging and collaborative team. You will provide technical leadership, mentoring and advice for the team, while delivering solutions for numerous clients. You will be expected to provide a wide range of geological and geotechnical support to the business including, quarry planning and design, Mineral Reserves and Resource assessments, mineral exploration. You will also have the passion and drive to be involved with major geotechnical projects across a range of infrastructure projects.  

 

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist, you will manage an established and growing team providing support and advice to the wider company's business and clients as well as acting as task lead on projects. You will lead or assist in the delivery of Geotechnical input to projects. You will also be required to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced junior engineers and technicians. There will be opportunities for a wider degree of responsibilities and roles within the Geotechnical team aimed at developing your career as a Geotechnical specialist.  

 

Responsibilities:  

 

Planning of site investigations and designing mineral exploration ground investigation and undertaking site assessment.  

Supporting all aspects of mineral exploration including desk studies, ground investigation and reporting.  

Working in multi-disciplinary project teams to complete large scale projects.  

Contribute to the preparation of winning proposals through clear understanding of Clients’ requirements, identification of scope and assessment of level of effort and tools needed for successful delivery  

Support project delivery teams to meet our client’s needs whilst maintaining sound financial and programme management and control  

Assume responsibility for a range of projects for a diverse range of clients  

Provide technical support for all stages of projects within your projects  

Training, coaching and mentoring for junior members of the team and non-technical staff.  

 

Essential Criteria:  

 

You will have a minimum of ten years’ relevant experience in industry and have attained chartership with an appropriate professional body.  

With a first degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a relevant earth science, you will also hold a MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.  

Strong working knowledge of Digital terrain modelling software, ideally LSS.  

Thorough understanding of legislation and regulations in relation to UK quarrying industry.  

Practical experience in scoping, procuring, and interpreting medium to large scale ground investigations.  

Expertise in developing robust, cost-effective designs and assessment using the most up-to-date practices.
