Job description
My client is an environmental consultancy and they are currently looking to recruit for a Head of Ecology which can be based anywhere in the UK. This is an amazing an opportunity to contribute to the strategic development and growth of their company at a leadership level. My client is looking for someone with a genuine passion for ecological consultancy and the vision and ability to develop the ecology business in line with my client's values.
You will be responsible for developing and driving the vision for the team, developing and managing client relationships and winning work as well as managing projects and budgets.
Team development is integral to their success and you would be responsible for coaching and leading the ecology team, ensuring that they are engaged in projects that support their interests and professional development. They offer you the opportunity to lead by example and act as a figurehead for excellence in ecology within the company and externally to their clients and other partners.
This role can be based in anywhere in the UK, with the ability to travel for work on occasion in the UK, including attending the office in Manchester at least monthly.
You would become an integral part of a growing consultancy, working directly with the Directors and their existing consultants. Day to day, you would be responsible for developing an delivering the ecology business plan, leading their ecology team, managing projects and costing and tendering for work.
This role would provide you with an opportunity to gain exposure to a wide variety of projects and clients and manage and develop your team. They would like to offer you the chance to help shape the future of their company as well as your own career.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you will ideally have the following
- A minimum of 8-10 years professional experience in ecology with experience at leadership level
- Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, relevant wildlife legislation and ecological impact assessment (EcIA)
- Experience of bidding for and winning work and developing and managing client relationships
- Proven track record in writing ecological appraisals, EcIAs and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
- A goo understanding of natural capital and biodiversity net gain
- In-depth knowledge of particular plant and/or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
- Be a full member of CIEEM and Chartered Ecologist or similar
- Ideally hold Survey and/or Development Licences
- Have a full UK driving licence.
