Job description
Our client, a water and civil contractor, is currently seeking an Estimator located in Guildford.
The Role:
- Prepare and manage tender submissions, budget quotations, and Early Contractor Information, encompassing all aspects of bid preparation including pricing and quality submissions.
- Work closely with other estimators and project delivery teams to develop compelling proposals that meet client needs and win project opportunities, whilst seeking alternative, sustainable solutions that maximize environmental benefits, utilizing the client's specialist equipment.
- Provide estimating services for the client services and develop expertise in wet civil engineering estimating, contributing to the strength of their team and the wider organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Tender Management:
- Review and complete tenders, ensuring alignment with company strategy.
- Conduct site visits for value engineering and alternative identification.
- Complete pricing, quality documentation, and timely submission of tenders.
Client Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with clients to meet their objectives and expectations.
- Promote environmentally friendly solutions and innovative approaches.
- Liaise with various teams to address client inquiries and develop proposals.
Project Assessment:
- Perform site visits to understand project outcomes, identify key issues, risks, and opportunities.
- Ensure environmental impact and sustainability considerations are integrated.
Additional Duties:
- Develop tender strategies with operations and stakeholders.
- Prepare handover files and accurate take-offs for delivery teams.
- Stay informed on market rates, industry guidelines, and legislation.
- Collaborate with experienced staff to refine methodologies and meet client outcomes.
Requirements
Essential:
- HNC or higher in Construction or Civil Engineering-related subject.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Outlook).
- Basic understanding of contracts like NEC3/4, JCT, etc.
- 5+ years in Site Management, Project Management, Commercial Management, or Estimating, including costing and programming of works.
- Familiarity with operational civil engineering/construction projects or estimating/commercial management of such projects.
- Excellent skills in communication, attention to detail, and writing professional quality submissions (e.g., method statements).
- Adaptable to shifting work programs.
- Valid driving license and ability to undertake site visits across the UK.
Desirable:
- Degree in Construction or Civil Engineering.
- Record of Commercial and Programme training courses.
- Understanding of environmental legislation related to tidal waters and inland waterways.
- Experience in estimating contracts involving floating equipment on canals and tidal waters.
- Experience with Valesco or similar estimating software.
- Experience in presenting tenders and information succinctly to clients.
- Working on and accessing equipment in tidal waters.
