Job description

Our client is a leading multi-disciplinary engineering contractor specialising in undertaking key maintenance, refurbishment and replacement works to critical UK infrastructure. They have a vacancy for an aspiring, competent Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor within their North-West and Central commercial team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business offering independent workload and development opportunity.  

 

The individual will take responsibility of projects from contract award through to final account agreement. To ensure that all commercial and contractual aspects of the relevant projects are properly managed and controlled in an efficient manner to ensure the maximum return for the business.  

 

Responsibilities Include:  

• The successful candidate will be able to commercially manage regional workload and mentor an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor.  

• To provide assistance, support and guidance on all commercial issues within the Project(s).  

• Preparation of internal CVR on a monthly basis to satisfy the requirements of the Commercial Manager / Senior Commercial Manager and any other reports which may be required.  

• Maintaining an up to date Cost to Complete and Risk Register for the projects(s)  

• Preparation of Valuations/Applications for Payment on a monthly basis with full supporting documentation in an efficient and timely manner and in accordance with the contract.  

• Preparation of Cost Reports to the Client on a monthly basis with full supporting documentation.  

• Preparation of earned value calculations and detailed projected project outturn costs on a monthly basis.  

• Preparation and management of subcontract and key material(s) procurement schedules.  

• Compile and issue invitations to tender, analyse subcontractor quotations and make recommendations for subcontract award & write subcontract orders for approval.  

• Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts.  

• Production and rigorous management of Early Warning Notices / change notices and associated registers.  

• Preparation, negotiation and agreement of Compensation Events/variations, extension of time claims, etc.  

• To assist in identifying and proactively managing all commercial risks and opportunities and carrying out value engineering exercises.  

• To encourage and develop a culture of contractual awareness within the site team and ensure that the full contractual entitlement is achieved by rigidly managing records, contractual notifications, change control, etc.  

• To utilise focalpoint costing system to help improve cost control and commercial reporting and ensure that all relevant people are fully trained to utilise the system to its full potential.  

• To ensure that all Group Procedures are strictly followed by all commercial team.  

• Establish and implement a robust system of site records for all labour, plant, materials, prels, etc as support for cost substantiation in the event of change and or delays to the contract Works.  

• Preparation & agreement of project final accounts  

• To undertake any other work as required of you by the Commercial Manager/Project Manager, etc.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications/Certificates  

• Full UK Driving License  

 

Desirable Qualifications/Certificates  

• Degree qualified, along with membership to RICS / CInstCES / CIOB  

• CSCS / PTS card holder  

 

Essential Knowledge/Experience  

• Experience of key NEC, JCT and Network Rail forms of contract with a proven track record are preferred.  

• Experience of building and maintaining good working relationships with people of all levels.  

• Experience and proven ability to manage people.  

• Experience of liaising successfully with Clients and managing difficult relationships.  

• Working knowledge of standard forms of contract and methods of measurement.  

• Experience with a construction/engineering contractor.  

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.  

• A team player who also works well independently.  

• Organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage own workload effectively.  

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project.  

 

Desirable Knowledge/Experience  

• Ability to handle hard conversations with team members, maintain performance.  

• 5 years quantity surveying experience.
