Job description

This contract with our defence client is for a Senior Facility Engineer for 18 months in Aldermaston – 3 days/week on site  

 

Duties & Responsibilities:  

• Contract Management  

• Safety Cases  

• Managing external stakeholder safety cases  

• Stakeholder management  

• Design reviews  

• Leading shortfall meetings  

• Stakeholder engagement collaboration  

• Live documents  

 

Key part of role:  

• Safety Cases  

• Documents covering risk assessment for a facility. Figure out what to do to make it better.  

• Nuclear background may have something similar; safety reviews, hazardous reviews  

 

Key Accountabilities:  

- Demonstration of safe, effective and ethical working behaviours.  

- Adherence to management system requirements for engineering activities.  

- Delivery of engineering tasks to schedule, budget and quality requirements.  

- Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.  

- Additional accountabilities for this job profile may be defined and appointed through the Chief Engineer Management Arrangements, with appointees listed within the Company Design Authorities and Technical Authorities, as held in the company management system.  

 

Key Responsibilities:  

- Apply extensive domain and technical knowledge for design intent, as-built standards and system performance through life for engineered systems and structures.  

- Interpret and deliver the requirements of complex and high profile issued tasks from the Asset Engineering Solutions order book (including troubleshooting, quoting, reporting, design, commissioning and handover as required), and make evidence based professional engineering decisions to solve technical problems within area of responsibility.  

- Lead and advise engineers within bounds of own specialism in the delivery of innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.  

- Identify and escalate business risk arising from condition of engineered systems and structures, and follow up on actions.  

- Inform department or project engineering strategies.  

- Demonstrate adherence to management system requirements and relevant technical standards and advises others how to adhere efficiently.  

- Engage with company delivery and administrative requirements; report own and team progress honestly and clearly, communicate in an engaging manner, support performance management.  

Optimise the delivery of Operations Engineering.

Requirements

• HNC with suitable additional experience to Incorporated Engineer equivalent level.  

• Membership of an engineering institution.  

• Understand what a safety case is  

• Safety case is a key phrase. Equivalents from other companies may be safety reviews, risk management on hazardous situations.  

• Good screening question “What’s your safety case experience”.  

• Understands relevant legislation.  

• Nuclear background/experience  

• RAF/Defence background may provide transferable skills.  

• Background in Project/engineering management  

• Regulatory and legislative experience  

• Engineering side/degree preferred or equivalent experience.  

• there is no preference regarding their field of engineering. Mechanical, electrical, C&I, Civil, all ok, they are looking across all fields, as long as there is an engineering background.  

• A manager rather than a doer  

• High level overview  

• Substantiation  

• Compliance assessments
