Job description

This contract with our central government client is for a Marine Engineer / Technical Engineer for 9 months based in Portsmouth/most of the work will be on site. Head office is Croydon. Travel is expected in this role, Expenses will be covered.  

 

Responsibilities to include:  

1. Engineering Technical Superintendent for designated vessels.  

2. Arrange, facilitate and oversee maintenance and recertification periods, including visiting shipyards during maintenance periods to oversee quality of workmanship, completion of all contracted works and acceptance as required. This may involve periods working away from the home station.  

3. Maintain the material aspects and operational availability of the vessels in your charge to meet the requirements of the Maritime Control Centre.  

4. Ensure the vessels remain certified to all legislative requirements, including MCA Load Line certification or Workboat Code (Class 2).  

5. Audit contract invoices against agreed and completed works before forward processing to the Vessel Management Senior Officer.  

6. Arrange and oversee all in year reactive maintenance and damage repairs.  

7. Liaise with the Maritime Control Centre regarding scheduling of all work on your vessels that may impacts on their operational availability.  

8. Provide technical guidance and mentoring support to CPV crews on matters of an engineering nature.  

9. Identify engineering stores required for the CPV fleet to satisfy MB59 requests.  

10. Evaluate defect reports and take appropriate action.  

11. Undertake material assurance visits if required on an opportunity basis.  

12. Monitor vessel usage and machinery servicing requirements.  

13. Arrange storage for vessels surplus to operational requirement.

Requirements

Essential skills and experience:  

1. Experience with setting up detailed requirements for work packages.  

2. Experience in managing major projects.  

3. Experience in financial control of suppliers.  

4. Experience in working in a close team sharing projects.  

5. Experience working with partners and stakeholders in the marine ship repair and maintenance industry.  

 

Desirable skills and experience:  

Have one or some the following:  

1. Have relevant maritime background and experience e.g. has worked in Maritime Command and other related maritime operationally focused services.  

2. An understanding of the work of Border Force and the wider Home Office or similar organisations.  

3- Driving license required because there will be a requirement to travel to contractors premises.  

 

Essential qualifications:  

1. STCW Engineering OOW or Deck OOW to STCW lll/2 or higher or equivalent i.e. HND Marine Engineering.  

2. Up to date STCW Safety Certification or equivalent.  

3. Full UK manual driving licence.
