Water and wastewater services for Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Each day Southern water supplies 535 million litres of drinking water from their 90 water treatment works along 13,753 kilometres of water mains to their customers’ taps. They take nearly 70 per cent of the water from underground sources, called aquifers, 23 per cent from rivers and seven per cent from storage reservoirs. Each day Southern Water also treats and recycles 700 million litres of wastewater at 368 treatment works after it is pumped through a sewer network of 39,600 kilometres.
