Our client is a major design, engineering and civil project management consultancy who has been rapidly growing within various sectors and who is looking for multiple experienced professionals to join them on permanent basis. This role is for a Principal Highways Engineer is located in Cardiff.
Job Description:
Working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technicians and other professionals, you will be responsible for leading design teams responsible for delivering civil engineering design.
Your experience should demonstrate extensive experience in the successful delivery of projects to time, cost and quality requirements. Your communication skills and teamwork should be excellent, with the ability to communicate effectively to design teams, clients and stakeholders.
Some of the main responsibilities for this role include:
- Leading highway design for various highways and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Deriving potential design solutions by using your excellent analytical skills to solve engineering problems and applying engineering judgement to appraise and recommend options.
- Overseeing the production of design documentation for highway schemes, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications to programme, quality, and budget.
- Act as Technical Lead or Technical Reviewer on projects.
- Preparation of fee offers and scopes for agreement with the client, as well as supporting bids and tenders.
- Working collaboratively across the company to manage the delivery highways tasks or projects.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, maintaining and developing relationships and representing the company to various client bodies.
- Developing more junior staff by technical training and mentoring.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as the ICE or CIHT, to Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) level.
- BEng, MEng or MSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Extensive experience of working with their key clients, e.g. Local Authorities, National Highways, Welsh
Government, Major Contractors.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience in leading civil engineering design to relevant UK highway design standards/guidance such as DMRB, Manual for Streets and Active Travel (Wales) Design Guidance or LTN 1/20.
- A detailed comprehension of technical standards relating to highways design, and ability to lead teams in technical design and decision making.
- Experience of leading client interfaces.
- Experience in the engagement and management of project stakeholders in a range of situations.
- Proven ability to advise clients and teams on technical matters.
- Proven ability to coach and develop team members and lead successful teams.
- A willingness to work flexibly to deliver projects to time and budget.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of supporting junior staff through professional qualifications.
- Project Management experience.
- Bid / Tender Management experience.
- Active participation in professional networks and committees.
